Five thousand are idle as the result of the strike. SEAMEN’S FEDERATION. WRIT AGAINST FIVE EXECUTIVE OFFICERS. MELBOURNE, May 27. ' A‘writ has been issued on behalf ol one New South Wales, two Queensland, and two South Australian members of the Seamen’s Federation against five members of the executive council, seeking a. declaration that all acts and business transacted by the defendants as executive officers since January 29th are illegal and void, and an injunction is asked for restraining them from acting as executive officers or dealing in any way with the funds of the federation. The conference -adjourned to enable the seamen’s representative from Queensland to attend. He has been delayed as the result of the quarantine restrictions. SYDNEY, May 27. The seamen's secret ballot has commenced, but numbers of men are not voting. MINES AND FACTORIES CLOSING.
