The speaker at the Alexandra Hall last evening, under the auspices' of tho Social Democratic Party, Mr H. K Holland, M.P., referred to the fact that the Peace terms made arrangements with Germany to be in. a position to trade with the Allies, including Britain., . In .section X. the Treaty contained detailed. provisions for securing that Germany shall not discriminate, directly or indirectly, against the trade of the Allies. Germany is to undertake "to protect the trade pf.jhe K AIKW/''and, "on condition of reciprocity," to respect the laws'and'"judicial decisions of the Allied and associated ■States in respect of wines and spirits. "International transport is to be expedited, particularly for perishable goods There is to be no discrimination in transport charges and facilities against Allied ports. Free zones in German ports are to be provided for trade requirements without distinction of nationality. Only certain limited charges !are to be permissible in free ports.' In that alone, said the speaker, there are the genus of future wars. In -view |of these facts he wanted to know what, twas the-position of Sir James Allen, who asked the watersiders' deputation, when it demanded the repeal of the War Regulations: "Do you want to trade with the men who killed your sons? Well, let us divide ourselves into those who wish to trade with the men who frilled our sons and" those who do not." Mr Holland also referred to the fact that Mr Masgey and Sir Joseph Ward had signed on behalf of the New Zealand people this Treaty which contained these provisions.
