It is doubtful if the permission to export will be any relief to the present congestion on the markets as there is no freight offering to Sydney. Onions are being inquired for up to ,£7 15s at country stations, but growers are holding back.

The first annual sale inaugurated by the Hereford breeders of the Wairarapa was held in the Colombo road salerards* Masterton, on Wednesday. The sale was conducted by the local auctioneering firms, acting in conjunction. Most of the bulls yarded were in first-rate condition, and many of them were of exceptional qualify. There ' was a large attendance cf the ipublic, but although thyre was a generally expressed appreciation ot ..tie stbelif"- offered there were comparatively few-'fcuyersy'and bidding was by no meari3 '. animated.- The season, and the exceptional conditions prevailing, doubtless contributed to this.'
