(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI. May 29. Mr Byron Brown has sold, his residence, and adjacent landc'atJiCSjiki to Mr'Pahner, of Wellington, who has also purchased a farm in this district. A local land agent claimed tff have "put through" some £IBO,OOO of property during the past few weeks. Mrs Arona te 'Kana, wife of the Rev. te Hana, died at Ohau this week, and was buried at Otaki yesterday afternoon.
During the past fishing season Mr Luxlord, of Waikanae, cjaught overt 250 trout, averaging from 6rie_pound to one and a n>lf pounds in the Waikanae river.
Duok shooting this season has been below the average, and very few good bags have been reported. When disturbed the birds fly direct to the many sanctuaries in the district.
The Waikanae-Akatarawa road is being put in~good order," and it is hoped that it will soon be ready for .vehicular traffic " ;■,.:;'"'
At a meeting of the local bowling; club last night, it was decided to form a croquet club for ladies, and to hold a • ball at no distant date.
The parishioners of Waikanae met in full force yesterday afternoon to extend a welcome to the Rev. and Mrs Kendrick, who were recently married. Mrs Kendrick was presented .with a pretty bouquet by Httle Miss Bauchop, while a musical programme added harmony to the proceedings. _-■ Otaki at the present time is plunged in darkness, due largely to loan money being unavailable for electric lighting purposes. It is more than probable that the old oarbido system of lighting will again be installed. Mr E. Evans, who shortly settles down to farming in the To Horo district, where he has secured Mr EH Allen's farm, has first concluded an extensive trip of the North Island, embracing Auckland, Waikato, Hawke's iSay, Manawatu and Horowhenua districts. Q It has been suggested that the Levin Experimental Farm be cut up for soldier settlement.
Sergeant "Mick" (VHalloran (M.M.) is at present visiting friends in this district.
