THE TRAMWAYS
(To the Editor "N.Z. Times.")
Sir.—l have been on several deputations to tne City Council re tmougn tiojitts at the rush hours, and nave tried, along with others, 10 persuade tne powers that be tnat it wouid be to the advantage of the public and the City Council. 'rne leply to the various applications is shortage oi cars. 'iliac is so. Mere is an instance oi many tnat I have suffered along witn many others, 1 tried to board a Lyall Uay car at Courtenay place on Monday, April Hath. The inspector prevented me, and said it was lull, i varied tor the next car, which arrived in a few minutes, got on board, but found no seat until the car arrived at the foot of Constable street By the time we got to Kiibirnie there was plenty of room, in fact one car would have held all the Passengers. Instead the two cars ran to Lyall Bay terminus, where they arrived together. If they had a four-section charge the authorities would save the useless running of two cars instead of one car. I contend that if through fares to Islana Bar and Lyall Bay were charged during rush hours, tho penny section fare would use the Kewtown cars instead ,of delaying the through long-distance travellers.' I know that professional men of all sorts do not like to take laymen’s opinion, as they consider’ it is lowering to their digninty. J. E. STANSELL, Senr. . 226, Sutherland road, Lyall Bay. -May 17 th, 1919. \
