SHOP ASSISTANTS' DISPUTE

CHBISTOHURCH. May 23. The Conciliation # Council failed to agree in regard to wages, overtime, and holidays in the dispute between the shop assistants and soft goods employers. A proposal by the assistants to close the shops at 5.30 on ordinary days was refused by the employers who also opposed heing compelled to pay assistants who are siok. The dispute was adjourned to allow the employers to confer among themselves.
