LABOUR AND SHIPBUILDING
A BIG SCHEME REJECTED, Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, May 13 (delayed). Air Allan Hughes, an Australian shipowner, originated the idea of offering the Chepstow yards to the Shipbuilding Workers’ , Federation. Ho was tho moving spirit in the original enterprise, before the Government took over the uncompleted yards. Mr Hughes proposes to raise the bulk of the capital in London, giving Labour half the directorships of a new company, which will conduct the business for three years, to enable Labour to study, the entire working and prospects. Labour could then buy out the capitalists, or vice versa.
It was announced in the House of Commons to-day that the Government has made a definite offer to the federation.
