Three .boys who escaped from the Weraroa Training Farm on Sunday night caused some excitement in Palmerston North on Tuesday in their endeavours to avoid recapture. One of the lads appropriated a bicycle from the Square, another took one belonging to Mr Hodgson from his premises in Pitzhorbort street, while the third boy obtained a machine ’ owned by a carpenter working at Willard House. The boys then set off on the commandeered Machines in various directions,, but it was ascertained that they had met at Terrace End and were proceeding towards Ashhurst. In the meantime, however, the alarm had been raised, and a motor cyclist set out in pursuit. He overtook the lads near Ashhurst and held them until the police arrived by motor-car, when they were conveyed to the police station, and afterwards sent back to Weraroa.
