WIDENED SPHERE
AUSTRALIA’S OBLIGATIONS IN VIEW OF HER PACIFIC i mandate. By Telegraph—Press Association Copyright SYDNEY, May 21. The “Sydney Morning Herald,” in a leader urging the necessity, in vietv ot the mandate she is receiving over the Pacific Islands, of Australia widening her vision and adopting a more settled policy and a more systematic effort to solve the problems of her widened sphere, raises the question of,“ 10 , un ” satisfactory condominium in the New Hebrides. The “Herald” says Australia can offer strong arguments m favour of the dissolution of the condominium, but the weak part or hex case is that, while pointing a course, she shows a great disposition to leave tho paying of the piper to someone else. Probably the condominium could be ended by cessions in equatorial Africa or the payment of a few million pounds, but until Australia shows a disposition to incur her part of the obligation can she wonder her appeal lacks force ?
