The Ministry of Shipping announces the number and tonnage of Allied merchantmen lost through enemy action as follows: Britain 2197 ships, 7633 thousand tong. France 238 ships, 697 thousand tons. Italy, 230 ships, 742 thousand tons. Japan 29 ships, 120 thousand tons. United States 80 ships, 341 thousand tons.
