LONDON, May 12 (delayed). The Australian Press Agency interviewed the Hon. W. M. McPherson (Treasurer of Victoria). With reference to immigraition, Mr McPherson said: "We as a Government.feel that our first duty is the repatriation of our soldiers, and thereafter give preference to British ex-Service men, and then British civilians." Ho welcomed the Colonial Office's proposals regarding immigration of ex-Service settlers, and intends to confer with the Conimonweailth authorities as to co-operat-ing with the States in encouraging British imimigratdon. Meanwhile immigrants possessing capital need not wait, because the Victorian Government was prepared to make land immediately available for, settlement. Iramdgratdon was necessary for Australia, both for the development of re' sources and security against aggression.
Mr McPherson applauded Mr Chamberlain's preference proposals. It was the duty of Britain to afford preference to the Dominions against foreign trade, and the duty of the Commonwealth to reciprocate.
