YOUNG MAN'S CRIME
RETRIAL IN THE CASHMAN CASE.
The Supreme Court criminal sessions were continued before the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) yesterday. A plea of not guilty was entered hy Henry Arthur .Grant, a young man, who was charged wifh indecently assaulting a little girl, aged four years and eleven months. Mr P. S. K. Maoassey appeared tor tho Crown, and Mr H. F. O'Leary represented the accused. Mr D. F. Skinner was foreman of the jury. After a retirement of forty minutes, tho jury returned a verdict of guilty. The accused was romanded till Friday for sentence. OASHMAN FOUND GUILTY.
The court was occupied most of the afternoon with the re-trial of Percy Cashman, charged with assaulting Matthew Willie, with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm. The affair was the outcome of a domestic estrangement, it being admitted that Willie had had improper relations with Cashmau's wife.
Mr P. S. K. Macassey appeared for the Crown, and Mr P. \V. Jackson tor the accused. Mr J. B. T. Robinson was foreman, of the jury. After a retirement of an hour, the jury returned with a verdict of guilty of assault causing actual bodily harm, but strongly recommended mercy on account of the extenuating circumstances. His Honour: That is a very proper verdiot, gentlemen. I will do what 1 can to carry out your recommendation. The prisoner was remanded till Friday for sentence. A SERIOUS CHARGE. Press Association. HAMILTON, May 20. Thomas William Addison, farmer, Waatetuna, was committed for trial at the Supreme Court at Hamilton on charges of incest in respeat to his two daughters, aged twelve ajid fourteen. Bail was refused.
