MASTERTON, May 19. Warm rain fell throughout the district yesterday and to-day. ± ' At the Inquest concerning the deatn of David Falconer, a returned soldier, whose body was found with a gunshot wound in 'the cheßt, a verdict of suioide was returned. Sergeant Maurice Fly, M.M., was tendered a "welcome home on Saturday evening by the employees of Messrs Fly, Young and Beat-tie. Drivers A. Cairns', W. A. Clark and J. Smith, who returned to Masterton on Saturday evening, were accorded a hearty welcome by the pubho. The Mayor (Mr W. H. Jackson) and Mr G. R. Sykes, M.P.) met them at the railway Btation and officially welcomed them. They were played into the town by the Silver Band and warmly greeted by tho people. Cheers were given for the soldiers and for the English bride and child of Driver Cairns. The opening; competition of the Masterton Miniature Rifle Association was won by E. D. Mills with a score of 68.
