WOMAN'S ABILITY
Who would doubt tho fact of woman's having made good? And who would question' man's belief in -her abilities? (says a. writer in au exchange). Not one of to-day's advertisers, at any rate. A lady assistantsecretary i 3 required, "qualifications sound chemical training (inorganic, or. ganic, and physical), and some acquaintance with bacteriology, French, German, shorthand, and typewriting." Personally the paragraph made roe realise what a lot of water has flowed under the bridge since 1914. Early in that year I was collecting matter with respect to the openings for women scientists in the industries. The result was not very encouraging. One man, I remember, filled me with fury. He patted my arm before 1 could avoid it, madu remarks which ho intended to be complimentary on my personal appearance and age, and hazarded the opinion I was a "suffragette" to inquire about or suggset so ridiculous a topic) ,
I have wondered how his business got on during the war. Had he so descended to tho engagement of "suffragettes" ?
