The Government, in order to encourage the study of the subjects comprised in the engineering courso at. tho universities, has approved standard regulations for the award of three-year bursaries, with an extension to rive years uuder special circumstances. The bursaries will provide for payment of university fees for the holder; for a refund of travelling expenses up to £lO a year if he is obliged to travel more than four miles each way; and for an allowance of £SO per annum if he has to live away from homo. The Hon. J. A. In this connection, the Ministor said, it was desirable- to encourage promising students with special aptitude for these callings to continue their studies. He wished to see in all vocations or occupations a. higher standard of skill and efficiency.
