LEAGUE FOOTBALL
PROSPECTS’FOR THE SEASON. The adjourned meeting of the Wellington Rugby League was held on Wednesday evening. Delegates representing Athletic, Suburbs, Newtown and Petone clubs were present. Mr C. Murphy presided. The chairman pointed out the necessity of united action by the delegates present in order to push the game along. He advised .that special attention be paid to the juniors. The question of grounds was vital. Only one ground was at present available at Petone, but it was hoped that the new City Council would, bo able to provide one in Wellington. . It was pointed out also that the prospects for the game wore exceedingly promising. Besides a New Zealand team for Australia, there would be representative' : matches against Auckland and Canterbury, also return matches against the same pro- 1 vinces. A New South Wales team would also visit the Dominion on the completion of the New Zealand tour. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted:—President, Mr Dan Campbell: vice-presidents, Messrs P. Fraser, M.Pi, J. Sullivan, G. Mawson, M. J. Reardon, O. H. Chapman, J. Glover. J. Hutchison, G. Nees, G. Frost, J. O. Shorland, .T. Norwood and A. Anderson; hon. secretary, Mr W. H. Brice; hon. treasurer. Mr J. Berber. The election of patron was hold over till next meeting, also the election of selection committee.
Following are the senior grade fixtures for to-day:
Athletic v. Fetono B, Petone No. 2, 2.80 p.m.; referee, A . White. Suburbs v. Petone A. Petone No. 2, 8.30 p.m.; referee, C. Murphy. Tt will he noticed that both games will ho played at Petone. This has been found necessary in order to allow the selectors of the New Zealand team to witness the games. In add'tion to the selection .of the' New 'Zealand team, it is probable that several rdnyers will be selected to go into traming with a view to pi earing Auckland at Auckland. Junior ga m es will commence on the following Saturday,'and n special effort is being made to cater for the s-oung player, and if *he standard of plav is sufficiently grind a challenge will he issued against Auckland .iun’ors to play for the silver shin'd donated f"r the best junior team playing in the Dominion.
