GENERAL RUSSELL
RECEPTION AT NOON TO-DAY.
The* transport Arawia, with General Sir Andrew Russsell and the North Island, Nelson, and Marlborough returned troops on board, is due in 'Wellington from Lyttelton about 7.30 this morning.
The programme for the procession and the national reception -to General Russsell, arranged for yesterday, will be carried out to-day. The procession is to leave the Midland Hotel at 11 o’clock, andj, the reception takes place in the Town Hall at noon. At 1.30 p.m. General Russell will be entertained at luncheon byv the Government, at Parliament Buildings. ■ ; His Worship the -Mayor expresses the hope that employers nail release all returned soldiers and'as many other workers as possible to enable them to join, in the reception. The blowing of whistles by ships in port and a plentiful display of bunting are urged. Particulars as to the arrangements for the parade of the bodyguard and guard of honour are advertised. Cars are to be provided for disabled men umible to walk. HASTINGS, --.ay 16, , Arrangements are complete to" make General Russell’s return to his own town a red-letter day m the annals of Hastings. Tho General will be received by guards ot honour from returned soldiers and bis old Hawke’s Bay Mounted Rifles. The shops and schools will observe a holiday, and the town will bo gaily decorated. A civic reception by tho Mayor will be given at the Municipal Buildings. Sir Andrew’s employees at Tunanui estate have also prepared a great reception when he reaches his homo in the evening.
