QUEEN OF THE SOUTH

NO OFFERS FOR THE WRECK

Tenders closed at noon yesterday at Levin and Co.’s office for the purchase of the wrecked steamer Queen of the South, without the cargo, but not one tender was received. Levin and Co. are acting as agents for the owners of the vessel, the Queen Shipping Company. The wreck has now been abandoned to the underwriters

Tho difficulty of getting near the wreck appears to be one of the principal reasons why no one desires to risk money in purchasing it. Captain Wilis, of the Wakatu, does not deem it safe to go closer than a quarter of a mile to the wreck, which is itself a quarter of a mile out from the shore. There is a considerable break near the Queen of the South, which renders it risky- for a ship’s boat to go alongside her.

' The Queen Shipping Company is now prepared to purchase a boat to take up tho wrecked vessel’s running in the Wellington-Foxton service.
