VERY SERIOUS
GITY SHORT OF WATER MAYOR AND OFFICIALS VISIT WAINUI RESERVOIR. The Mayor (Mr J. P. Luke), Mr Patterson (assistant city engineer), and Mr Dives (waters works supervisor) visited the Wainui watershed and reservoir yesterday. On their return the Mayor informed the "Times" that the position regarding the city's water supply is very serious. Mr Luke said that he went to Wainui to get first-hand knowledge of the position. As a consequence of the dry 1 weather lately experienced the reserve of water is low, and, unless rain comes, 'the situation can be saved only by the I people practising the strictest economy I in the use of water. If the drought continues, this, he says, is . imperative.
''We have now reached such a stage that the people must cease wasting water, and cease using it freely," added Mr Luke. "As much is being drawn in these days of winter as was drawn in the height of summer, and 1 appeal to the people to reduce consumption to the minimum, in order to save tho position. "It is imperative that everyone should take this warning seriously and help the city through."
