Tho death'is announced of Air Benjamin Bufiterworth, at Auckland, yhp for many years waa overseer of railway and bridge construction work. Tho late Mr Butterworth arrived i» Auckland in 1885, and was in his ninety-first year.

Corporal JR. S. Moloney, the wellknown Christchurch baritone singer of pre-war days, returned by the Kia Ora, with a record of over four years on active servicO. For a time Corporal Moloney was a prominent member of the New Zealand Divisional Concert Party, “The Kiwis;.” who gave mahy cxcoflent entertainments to the -New Zealanders in the fighting zone oh the Western front.
Mrs Susan Adlington, who died at Auckland on Monday, at the age of eighty-nine, had resided in New Zealand for fifty-two years; 'She af’rived in Auckland by the ship Maori, with her husband, the late Mr Robert Adlington, and a family of four, on January 24i11, 18G7. Mr and Mrs Adlington were engaged in farming in tne Wbanga.rei district for many years up to the time of Mr Adliugton’s death, in 1893.
Lieutenant David Hunter Blair, & grandson of the late Mr R. H. Rhodes, of Elmwood, Christchurch, was amongst the British prisoners recently repatriated from Germany. Lieutenant Blair was captured early in the war, and during his long imprisonment he studied German and Russian with such, good effect that, the was able to pass examinations in both languages on bis return to England. ' lie has now been appointed a major attached to the Intelligence Department. '
The Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Minister for Lands, leaves VVollington on Monday to inspect the soldier settlements at Dannevirke and Takapau. The Minister will meet a deputation from tho local bodies of tho district at Dannevirke on Tuesday,' and on ..ednesday morning ho is to inspect some land offered to tho Government for settlement purposes. If time permits, ho will also visit tho new soldier settlement land to be balloted for immediately at Taratu, some two miles outside of Dannevirke. Mr Guthrie is due back in Wellington on Wednesday evening, having to meet on Thursday morning an important deputation from the Manawatu dairy farmers and the Dominion Butter Committee.
Captain R. Kidd, N.Z.M.C., who was on Monday appointed reaidpet medical officer, Ashburton Hospital, graduated M. 8., Ch.B-, at Duvjdin in September, 1915, taking a hijh place both in the class and professional examinations. After graduating he was appointed house surgeon to tie Christchurch Hospital, winch positton be relinquished at the end of s ye ol to proceed with the N.Z.E.T?. _ VJiS for several months with thy .Sew Zealand No. 1 Stationary Hospital at Amiens, and then with tho'hirst Field Ambulanco until ho was, wounded at Mcssincs. When convalescent ho returned to. New Zealand, and for the last eighteen months he has been assistant to the Director of Medical Services in Christchurch. ■
