EXPORT OF VEAL TO BRITAIN AND ALLIES ALLOWED.

The Hon. Arthur Myers,. Minister for Customs, informed a “Tunes representative yesterday that acting on. the advice of tho Minister for Agriculture, he had given instructions to the various Collectors of Customs throughout the Dominion to grant permits for the export of any quantities of veal to British or Allied dfeatioatilons. At tho same time, he was forwarding a recommendation to the Governor-General that tho Order-in-Council gazetted on April 10th, 1916, be amended to allow of the exportation as usual, but until this approval was obtained it would be necessary for exporters to make application to the various Collectors for permits. “This action," said Mr Myers, “has been taken, as* I am advised that feed for the purpose of carrying stock through the winter is insufficient, owing to tho dry weather conditions experienced during the summer and autumn over largo areas of the Dominion, more especially in the Hawke’s Bay and Auckland districts. Young cattle will experience tho greatest difficulty in- meeting these conditions, so that it is desirable to reduce the young stock in order to save the balance from starvation. The removal of the restriction will, therefore, allow of this class being -slaughtered and frozen for export. At the same time, I would like to point out that it may bo necessary at some future date to roimpose the embargo.” REPORTS FROM WHANGAREI. Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 14. Reports received from Whangaxoi today state that both dairying and grazing are hard hit by the drought. In the north of Auckland districts dhe stream supply has fallen to a minimum.
