RUGBY CONTROL

MEETING OF MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. Matters in connection, with Rugby football were discussed at a meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Rugby Union last evening. Mr W. F, Hornig presided. The Petone Club wrote stating that, owing to a prior engagement, it would be unanle to meet Poneke in a seven-a-side game on Peace Day.—lt was decided to ask Athletic to fill the breach. The controversy with regard to the playing of revised rules in the Auck-land-Wellington match last year was revived by the appearance before tne committee of Arthur Parker, a member of the Petone Club. Asked why he failed to attend to explain matters, Parker stated that he had not been notified officially by the club secretary. He was not prepared to express regret for discourtesy to tho club, as he did not consider he had been discourteous. It was decided to reinstate Parker after one more playing Saturday. B. B. Eberhardt, who was also suspended in connection with the same matter, applied by letter for reinstatement, explaining that work prevented him from attending proviously. —Th* committee decided to remove tho iuspension imposed on Eberhardt. - In connection with the BerhamporoPetono junior match last Saturday, a Berhampore player named C._ Spearman attended to explain the incident which led to his being ordered off by tho referee.—lt was decided to take no action until a report is received from the referee.

An application by tho Oriental Club to enter another fourth grade team vras granted. The committee agreed that the Poneko fourth-class team should meet Wellington at Lyall Bay No. 2 on Saturday. It was also resolved that the Terrace School team should play Petone District High School on Athlotic Park No. 2 on Saturday, the Poneke-Ber-hampore fifth-olasa match having been transferred to Duppa street. A donation of £2 2s. towards the D D. Weir memorial fund was received from Mr J. P. Firth. NEW ZEALAND BEATS FBANCE. Australian and Cable Association. LONDON, May 12.
