HOROWHENUA NOTES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, May 12. At the last meeting of tho florowhenua County Council the chairman's suggettion that rates amounting to i!236 lbs 2d be written off was agreed to. The chairman pointed out that some time ago JEICOO was written off; it would bo seen, therefore, the council at present had not done badly. It was decided to endeavour to secure a travelling hut for tho workmen’s convenience in the Te Horo riding. It was agreed that after May 19th al. stock found wandering on the Te Horo roads be impounded. Tho chairman reported that a deputation of councillors had waited on Sir Francis Bell and tho Minister for Internal Affaire relative to thd dTokSio stream and Horowhenua lake, and were simply told to go home and take legal advice. It seemed to him to be useless, to proceed with the work unless the settlers did something to help ibom selves. Councillor Jiarkno.ss pointed out that Mr Field was willing to join with the settlers to get necessary work done. It was decided to leave tho matter to the setthns. A party consisting of Mrs I tussling. Misses Knox t2j. Messrs Knox (31. 11. Mioolscn (secretary of the Mount Hector Track Committee), Broadmore. J. Ayrc Corrigan, and VV. Hassling yesterday made tho ascent of Table Top. and had a most enjoyable trip. Tho weather was delightful and the scenery cf the best. Tho party is -satisfied that once tho route is known parties from Wellington and elsewhere will frenuently make the trip during the summer months. ,
