The proceedings commenced the latter end of last year, when an i.ieiDiis robbery "‘as committed at Kilpatrick's jeweller's shop, in which
o’i diamonds valued at JLTOOt) were stolen in broad daylight. Arrests toi.iMvcd, and jurymen compifained of receiving threats. One Crown witness was brutally assaulted. Early ■ this year a certain Edward YVlining, who wu3 admitted to the hospital with screen hullct wounds in his head and arm, refused to divulge the name or Ins assailant. Later three men wore arrested outside the home of Matthew Daly, all of whom were heavily armed. Latterly tho rruy has been continued more openly. Albert Leans was battered with revolver butts and lead piping, and shots were tired through Daly's bedroom window. Frederick Cousins was shot nine times in the head and neck, and Whiting was shot at five times. Seven men were arrested last week in connection with the vendetta, most of them being bailed out. The teud culminated to-day in the shooting ol Henry Elater in the street. He was taken to the hospital with five wounds. An assailant was arrested. Slater had been previously hailed out in connection with the shooting of a constable and was also one of the men arrested f&r participation in the vendetta.
