TIMBER CONSERVATION

AN AUCKLAND STATEMENT AND AN EXPLANATION. PrM« Association. GREYMOUTH,, May IS. At a meeting of the Auckland Industrial Corporation Conference, Air Harbutt, in referring to the conservation of timber in New Zealand, stated that a contract was signed for the supply of five millions’ worth of timber from the West Coast to Australia. There was not the slightest foundation for the statement that any contract for a. considerable amount of timber had been entered into by the West Coast sawmills for Australia during the last two or three years. The little parcel referred, to by Air Harbutt equals (taking the pricy of timber at 20s f.o.b. Groymouth) 500,000,000 feet, or, in other words, is equal to the pr#* duction of the sawmills of tho Werf Coast for ten years.
