APPEAL FOR FUNDS ON BEHALF OF SEAMEN

(To the Editor "N.Z. Times.")

Sir, —The Wellington branch of the B. and F.S.S. thinks that it would bo a fitting tribute by the residents of Wellington and surrounding districts to use the opportunity which will be given by the forthcoming Peace celebrations' to show their appreciation of what the snilors of the mercantile marine have done for us, as well as other [portions of the Empire. The sacrifices made by the seamen will probably never be full'v realised, but the committee feels that an apnea! should be made to the citizens and farmers for funds' to enable the society to give the seamen in port a really festive time when the Peace celebrations take place. The B. and F.S.S. has made several-appeals to 'the public during the past four years and really enjoyable times for the sailors have been the result, but the np* peal now being made is a very special occasion, and is perhaps entitled to special consideration. The committee, ns trustees for the sailors, will see that the money is' put to the best possible use in the way of enjoyment for the seamen. Address donations to British and Foreign Sailors' Society, Post Office square, Wellington. ,„„___ D. McCALLTJM, President.
