SOLDIER’S ACCUSATION AGAINST A POLICEMAN.

A young New Zealand soldier, bearing a beautiful black eye, made a rather nasty allegation against some police constable in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. It seemed that the soldier, who had evidently returned invalided from the war, became excited, talked fight to several policemen, and was arrested. In the dock the defendant did not dispute the evidence against him, but when he had been dealt with by the court he quietly observed: “Your Worship, I would like to lay a charge against that policeman for striking mo.”

“‘Yes, I see your eye.” said His Worship, “but I advise you to go away and think it over before you do anything. If you want to fight half a-dozen policemen someone is sure to got hurt.”

“That’s all right,” replied the soldier, “but he had no need to strike me when they had me in the motorcar I wish today a charge against him.”

His Worship: “That cannot be done here, hut you can see to it elsewhere.”
