FARMERS’ UNION
WELLINGTON PROVINCIAL CONFERENCE.
The Wellington Provincial Conference of the Now Zealand Farmers' Union will be held at the Dominion Farmers’ Institute on Alay 27th and 28th. Included in a lengthy list ot remits to he discussed are the following : That, with a view to preventing the agents of tho Aleat Trust operating ia dairy produce in this Dominion, tho conference advises all dairy farmers to consign their produce to the Home markets, and to arrange for their own means of distribution there. That the Government be urged to capitalise the sum now paid to the various shipping companies for carrying the Dominion’s mails, and build sufficient steamers to carry all our own oversea mails, passengers, and produce.
That recognising the vital importance of an early supply of hydro-eleo-trioal power, the executive be urged to press for an early stort on the preliminary works.
That the Government be requested to take drastic steps to eradicate the cattle tick, and place a strict quarantine on tho infested area; and that a tax be levied on all cattle in Now Zealand to provide funds for a speedy extermination of the cattle tick.
That in view of the excellent results from the adoption of preferential voting in Australia, tho same system shall without further delay be embodied in the electoral laws of New Zealand. That the conference accords ’ its hearty support to the passing of a 1 own-P laumng Act providing for town-planning in its widest sense with provision for the laying-out on modern lines of village settlements in rural districts.
