TANGLE OF MARRIAGES
“DEAD” MAN WANTS TO KNOW JF HE CAN WED AGAIN.
An ttempt was made at Old street Police Court in London to straighten out a situation as complicated as a jigsaw puzzle, caused by a woman having married three mon.
Clara Jane M. Millward, or Parkins, of Leyton, was charged with higamously marrying Arthur Garrett, and this was the’ story told by the prosecuting solicitor; —
Husband No. 1. —In 1902 the defendant married a man named Parkins. He deserted her and she lost sight of him. Husband No. 2. —She next married Garrett in April, 1911. Garrptt joined the Army in 1915, and later on tho defendant board that ho had been killed in France.
Husband No. 3. —Believing herself to be the widow of Husband No. 2, she next married in April, I°lS, Edward Millward.
Recently Husband No. 2 returned homo, to find his “wife” married again. But ho then made inquiries, and found that she had nover in fact been his wife. This was because her first husband was still alive when she married Husband No. 2. The first husband died of an accident in January, 19)8, so that the defendant was now apparently tho legal wife of Husband No. 3.
Husband No. 2 now wished to marry another woman, and to find out exactly how ho stood ho brought tho present charge against the defendant. She was remanded on bail.
