At the General Anglican Synod. th« laymen's committee recommended that, a considerable increa bs in clerical stipends, which are now utterly inadequate. The Synod expressed its recognition of the noble response of churchmen to the call of Empire and sympathy with the bereaved parents and wives, the sick, and the disabled, and its hope for prompt and literal treatment from the Government for the disabled. Appreciation was also expressed, of the work of the Church. Army. . . . ■ . The Synod recommended promoting church schools in the centres.
