SHOP ASSISTANTS
CONCILIATION COUNCIL HEARS DISPUTE.
Yesterday the Conciliation Council was engaged with tho dis-pnto between tho shop assistants in the soft boot, hardware, fancy goods, stationery and furniture trades and the employers. Tho Conciliation Commissioner (Mr W. Nowton) presided, and the assessors were: For tho employers, Messrs W. A. Grenfell (agent), T. Forsyth, and H. Seaton; for tho employees, Messrs W. A. Croskery and A. J. Humphries and Miss B. Williams. Some, considerable time was occupied with the discussion of preliminaries. It was doubted 'whether all tho employes who should he added to the list had been added, and eventually it was agreed that the matter should ho gone into by Messrs Grenfell and Croskery. Details were considered in committee, and at the conclusion of tho argument there was nothing to communicate to tho Press.
For the purpose of considering the dispute in the other centres, the following fixtures have been arranged: Napier, May 131 h; Wanganui, loth; Palmerston North, IGtb; Mastcrton, 19th.
