STATEMENT BY DEFENCE MINISTER. In a printed reply to a question by Air Poland (Ohmemuri) in the House of Representatives, the Defence Alinister stated yesterday that it is not proposed to retire any member of the Royal New Zealand Ariillery (Permanent Force) until after the war, excepting in very special cases. Detachments of the New Zealand Garrison Artillery (Territorials)- have Been employed in connection with guards, etc., at the forts. These men are being replaced by those unfit for active service, as it has been found that tho employment of Territorials has heen detrimental to the interests of certain industries. Home service in future will be carried out entirely by men unfit ibr active service, or over the military age. This will not affect superannuated members of the Now Zealand Garrison Artillery at present employed, as those being over age are eligible for employment in the home service branch. New Zealand Expeditionary Force. No men fit for foreign service will b© retained m home service employment. Such men must either volunteer for active service or return to their civil avocations. Ala-mod members of the home service branch of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force employed in N o'"’ Zealand are eligible for separation and children’s allowances, as allowed «ie members of the foreign service branch of tbo New Zealand Expeditionary Force. It is not proposed to discriminate between the foreign service branch and tho home service branch in respect to pay or allowances, excepting that, as employment in the latter caitegory is purely voluntary, the number of children whom allowances may be drawn is limited to three-
