Mr H. G. Ell, M.P. for Christchurch South, called attention in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon to tho great damage done on Kapiti Island by wild goats and sheep, and asked the Prime Minister if the Lands Department would take steps to prevent it for the future. Mr Massey replied that the department had been endeavouring to make better arrangements in regard to the management of the island. The difficulty was that part- of the island belonged to the Crown and part to the natives. ‘‘Can’t vou buy them out?” Mr Massey: “They won’t sell. The department arc trying to get a boundary fence across to prevent the straying of stock.”
