The arrivals in Italy this week were 316 and the sailings 328. The sinkings comprised four steamers under 1500 tons; unsuccessfully attacked, two. TWO NORWEGIAN SHIPS SUNK •vustralian and N.Z. .Cable Association. (Received October 18, 7.46 p.m.) CHRISTIANIA, October 17. The Themis, Norway’s largest steamer, has been torpedoed in the Mediterranean. The sailing vessel Bethel has been sunk in the North Sea. The crews of both ships are missing. ATTACKED BY U-BOATS ESCAPING STEAMER’S CREW SHELLED. Eeuter’s Telegrams. LONDON, October 17. The captain and 49 of the crew of a British steamer have landed. They report that they were attacked by two submarines. The steamer was sunk without warning, and the submarines shelled th© crew after they had entered the boats, killing two men and wounding sis. Several of the German newspapers significantly express doubt as to the wisdom of air raids on open towns. The “Munich Post” urgently demands an agreement among all the belligerents to desist from the practice, which only hardens th© war spirit of tho victims.
