Twenty-three applications were received for the position of assistant clerk to the Palmerston. Borough Council. Mr A. G. Lather was appointed to the ]X>sitiou. The following officers are appointed for duty on a hospital ship:—Lieuten-ant-Colonel T. R. Inglis, Major E. E. Porritt, Captain J. H. Crawshaw, Captain W. A. Fairclough, Captain J. Reid, and Lieutenant T. W. Mabcn. Mr Robert ‘Williamson, touring manager for J. C. Williamson, Ltd-, is in town making arrangements for the appearance in Wellington of the Royal Comic Opera Company nest ■Wednesday evening. Mr A. F. Aishcr, of Palmerston North, has received advice that Sergeant C. Randeh, of the 25th Reinforcements, was wounded in the thigh on October 3rd. Later advice stated that Sergeant Eandeil arrived at Brockenhurst. The latest casualty list includes the name of Lance-Corporal Harry Cross Morgan,” who has been killed in Franco. The late Lance-Corporal Morgan was a highly-esWemcd member of the staff of Barrett’s Hotel when lie enlisted with the 7th Reinforcements. Ho was awarded tho Military Cross at Messines for gallantry in the field. There prised away at Oarnaru last week one of Southland’s oldest inhabitant*, Mr James Fullartor., B.A. The late Mr Fuliarton was bom on the Island of Arran, Scotland, in January, 1833. He studied for the ministry of tho Free Church of Scotland, and was fully licensed, but for health reasons waa obliged to come out to New Zealand in ISC3. Hi* brother was the Rev. A. Fullarton, for many years a distinguished minister of the Free Church in Glasgow.
