HOROWHENUA NOTES
From Our Own Correspondent. OTAKI, Wednesday. A fire broke out this morning at about. 3 o’clock in a shed at' the rear of tint Railway Hotel, ■when a deal or wood and coal was destroyed. Tho outbreak is a mystery. Had it not been for a willing bucket brigade, headed by Sir \V, Baker, considerable damage would Jjavo resulted, and in all probability the stationmaster’s residence, only a short distance away-, would have been demolished. The building was covered by insurance in the Guardian Office. Mrs Mcßeath, who has been on holiday in Auckland for the past two weeks, returned home this afternoon. An accident happened at Paraparaunnt yesterday morning. As far as is known Hr Capper was engaged in ploughing, and it is surmised that the implement struck a hard substance, tilted, and caused a handle to strike him heavily on tho head. When found Mr Capper was in an unconscious condition, and Dr Huthwaite was sent for. Mr Capper is making a slow recovery.
