WEALTHY DESERTERS

CONFISCATE THEIR LAND. URGES MR L. Al. ISITT, M.P. “What is being done to confiscate the land of deserters?” asked Mr L. M. Isitt, M.P. for Christchurch North, in the House of Representatives yesterday. Ho hod in mind, he added, the ease of two men who had disappeared. They wore big land-holders, and a relative was working the land for them. Ha thought that tho least that could be done in such cases was to confiscate thoir land. (Hear, hoar.) Mr Massey: “The matter is now under consideration at the present time.” (Hear, hear.) Sir James Allen said that he had a good deal of sympathy with what the non. member had said. The matter was being considered by Cabinet, and tho House would have an opportunity to deal with tho problem when the Expeditionary Forces Bill was under consideration, because the lion, member for Mataura (Mr G. J. Anderson) had already got an amendment on the Order Paper to that effect. The Houso must decide. (Hear, hear.)
