As there has not been any increase in the marketings of apx>lcs ■or pears extreme vaines continue- to -obtain in the local fruit markets for these de?. senptions of fruit. The demand is greatest for the Doughterly variety, followed by the Stunner, both of which are-, amongst the most popular of the apple category. Cooking apples are also commanding high rates indeed, so much ;so t that even tiro neglected Epps seedling is at an extreme range of mices. .Suppliesof pears are about exhausted, and as a result the inquiry, is strong...... Gooseberries are now being sought after, and as usual at the commencement of the season excellent bidding is bound to rule, . ' ; 'The market has temporarily hardened;: locally, but heavy quantities are-still offering'. in, the South Island', and higher prices cannot, unless the unexpected, happens,' result. New potatoes are. .just filtering on to the market, ' and extreme rates"; are ruling. Anything like large -quantities are not expected till late- next -month.
