Hughes, the Federal Prime Minister, replying to Opposition charges that the Government had caused the increased cost of living, stated that the investigation of the Inter-State Commissions had revealed no exploitation. The prices of bread as fixed and of meat were not controlled by any combine or profiteers either m the supply of stock or amongst tho wholesalers or retailers.
