DAVE GALLAHER KILLED
CAPTAIN OF ALL-BLACKS. The news of the death of Private Dave Gallaher, from wounds, on the 4th inst., will be received with regret bv a very large circle of friends of the famous lootballer. He saw service in the Boer War, leaving New Zealand as a private and returning as a regimenial sergeant-major. lie enlisted towards the end of last year, immediately cn hearing of the depth of a younger brother at the front. As a footballer. Private Gallaher was well known throughout the Empire, having been captain of the famous AlI-Blaets in fheir tour cf the Old Country during IDDAA. He represent-d Auckland in 3.593, 1897, 1833, 1900. 3903. and 3904, and represented the North Island in 1903 and New Zealand in 1903-4. He married Mies Francis, a sister of “Bolla” Francis, a well-known footballer. In eivil life he held a responsible position in the Farmers’ Freeeing Company. Auckland, where he was highly respected in commerciel. end sporting circles. »s a man of sterling character and good "sport.” Private Gallaher was fortyone years o? age, and leaves a widow and young daughter.
