A letter was received from a Kaiwarra lady seating that the time allowed tor geuing on and oil trams at Haiwarra station was msufhciont. The writer stated that her young brother, who had been severely wounded in both logs, had to travel every day to tho hospital, and that oa one occasion the tram started bcio-rc he had time to aught. A serious accident had been averted only by the promptitude or passing passengers. Councillor O. Bowden moved that the letter be referred to the Railway Department, and that the lady be notified that the matter had been taken up. It was nert cne first time similar complaints had been received; in his ■ opinion, the embargo on tho Hutt road should bo removed, and me tramway system extended. A letter was considered from’the secretary of the Ngaio school committee asking for the repair of tho footwav giving access to the school. Councillor Tucker agreed that the road was bad ; tho centre had been washed away by storm water and was one big groove; he thought the cost of repairs would bo small, a~.i moved that tho school be informed that the council considered the matter one for the Education Board. Councillor Appleton seconded the ino--1 tion, which was carried. . The reports of the road foreman, ’engineer, and ranger were adopted. The Wellington District Health Officer wrote stating that the present system of drainage in Onslow borough could not be considered satisfactory, 'and that the only permanen t remedy is tho provision of a proper drainage scheme; the present time, however, was not considered opportune fer_ embarking on any extensive municipal undertakings. Ho forwarded specifications for a suggested mode of tho disposal of household refuse. It was decided to acquire a piece of land for £OO, to the junction of Glen road with Tennis road, the motion being put hr Councillor Tucker, and seconded by Councillor Topp. The former then raised a matter not on the agenda paper, by commenting on the amount of sickness, especially diphtheria, in the borough; bad drainage was tha main cause. He thought they should use more disinfectant, but the price was high; the Karori Borough. Council had got over the difficulty by purchasing disinfectant- in large quantities, and retailing it at sixpence per quart bottle. He suggested that they act ou similar lines-," the council would lose no money on the deal, and it would make a big dilfcrcnce to the health of the community. On the suggestion of Councillor Appleton, the speaker moved, and Councillor Topp seconded, that a committee bo set up with power to act in the mat-tar. COURT CASE IMPENDING. The council have received a notice for the hearing of an injunction against them (to be heard on October 24th) by the Attorney-General, to restrain the council from executing any lease or agreement for the tenancy of the lands comprising tho catchment area foe- the purpose of gracing stock and from permitting Mr H. Hums to gran* stock. The grounds for tho injunction are that the groking of stock cn the catchment area will cuase irreparable damage, and will deetroy tho hush and trees thereon, and render the lend unSt for tho purpose for which it was acquired. —fa—
