SUPREME COURT
PRISONERS UP FOR SENTENCE. TWO YOUTHFUL OFFENDERS. Tho Chief Justice (Sir Robert StoUi) sat in the Supremo Court yesterday tor the purpose of passing sentence on prisoners who had pleaded guilty to offences in tho lo wer court, Mr x. S. K. -Macassey appeared for the Crown. Geoi-ce Winter-bum, a half-caste ot IS had pleaded guilty to two charges of’forgery and uttering at Otaki. Mr J J McGrath, who appeared for tho prisoner stated that he had received instructions from th young man s father, and there was a prospect of his getting work on a farm away from Otaki, which would meet the views ot tho probation officer. Tho prisoner was remanded until 10 a.m. to-day. James Glenn, also eighteen years ot age a hotel porter, stood charged with fraudulently retaining a postal packet at Wellington. His Honour observed that there were four former charges of theft against Hie priaonei, bo that bo was liable to bo declared an habitual criminal. He would be sentenced to two vears’ reformative detention at Invercargill gaol.
