THE CHECK TO THE MILITARYPOLICE. CALCUTTA, February 85. The check given to the militarj po'ice by the Naga tribesmen was due to the Nagas rushing the baggage coolies in the rear. The coolies became panic-stricken, dropped their loads, and clung to the sepoys, many of whom were, in cons» quence, unable to fire their rifles. Reinforcements have been sent. On February 15tb a collision occurred betewen the military police and the Naga tribesmen on the north-eastern frontier. - The police were inquiring -into the massacre of three men, when the Nagas assailed them in dense bush. Nine coolie transporters were killed and twentyseven wounded. The police repelled the tribesmen, losing four sepoys killed, and five wounded.
