ASSAULT CASE AT NGAIO. “This is worse than the ordinary case of assault,” said Sub-Inspector Sheehan at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, in a case in which Sydney Charles Westbrooks pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting James Walls Brown at Ngaio on Tuesday. The sub-inspector said both men were residents of Ngaio. On Tuesday night Brown loft tho train to go to his house. Accused met him, and assaulted him with a stick and knocked him down several times. Mrs Brown came to her husband’s assistance, and VVestbrooko then drew a revolver, pointing it at Brown. Tho weapon was afterwards found to contain two spent cartridges, and two others which had not boon bred. Brown was an employee of tho Onslow Borough Council, and had had occasion some time ago to complain to tho council respecting a water connection which accused had made to his house. Since that time bad feeling had existed between the two men. Tho sub-inspector suggested that accused bo bound over to keep the peace. Westbrooke was a married man, with a family, and was a general labourer. His Worship fined accused £3, with costs 4s, on tho assault charge, and ordered him to enter into a bond in the sum of £3O to keep the peace towards complainant for six months. He also said that he must find two sureties of £ls, and one of £3O, for Ins good behaviour during that period. Tho police are to hold the revolver for the six months.
