CIVIL SERVANTS’ PICNIC

The annual picnic of the combined departments ot the State-Guaranteed Advances, Valuation, and Land and Income Tax was hold at Day's Bay on Tuesday. Officers and friends to the number of three hundred made the trip across to the bay, and the competition in the various events on the sports programme was very keen. The annual cricket match was played, a drawn game resulting. The Advances team, batting first, made 120 runs, Morison (3b) being top scorer. The combined departments had scored 75 for four wickets when stumps were drawn. The bowls tournament results were: First round—Advances (19) defeated Valuation (14). Final—Advances (18) defeated Tax Department (7). In the tennis games Advances defeated Tax Department in the final by six sets to two. The following were the results of the races: —soyds Swimming Handicap— Noilson 1, Bollard 2. Neatest Header —Neilson 1. Three-legged Race—Mio and boott 1, Morison and Robertson 2. 100yds Handicap (final) —Mio 1, Scott 2, Morison 3. 50yds Ladies’ Race— Miss Gallichan 1, Miss Doyle 2. OneTnilo Walk Handicap—Neal 1, Simpson 2, Douglas 3. Wheelbarrow Race— Paul and Morison 1, Scott and Murray 2. Thread-the-needle Race—Scott 1, Morison 2, Paul 3. 220yds Handicap—Neal 1, Morison 2, Gibson 3. Committeemen’s Race—Auld 1, Foote 2, Newbold 3. The Valuation Department’s team won the tug-of-war.
