CIVIL SERVICE TOURNAMENT

SIR JOSEPH WARD’S TROPHY. Tho handsome trophy donated by Sir Joseph Ward for competition at the annual Civil Service tournament has come to hand. At the tournaments held in 1911 and 1912 the Post and Telegraph Department were the successful contestants, and they should have held the trophy. However, the coveted prize had to be manufactured by Messrs Walker and Hall, silversmiths, Sheffield, England,_ but new that it has been received it will be given to the Post and Telegraph Department at once, to hold until November next, when the next tournament again takes place. The trophy is of artistic and chaste design, consisting of a silver figure of Mercury, “the messenger of the gods,” standing on a globe which is mounted on an ebony plinth, and stands a little over a foot high. It is neatly finished, of .pleasing appearance, and will - make a pretty ornament anywhere.
