BREACHES OF DEFENCE ACT

Press Association. GREYAIOUTH, February 25. In the Alagistrate’s Court a dozen defence cases were adjourned for one week to allow of defendants attending parade in the interim. The magistrate inflicted a fine of £3 10s on one defendant for not having appeared at parade. Air Hewitt, S.M., said that m these cases of second offenders, if they were again brought up, he would increase the fines and deprive defendants of their civil rights. A case against Semple for refusing to give the ago of his son, as required by the defence authorities, was adjourned for a week to allow of defendant furnishing the age to the department. Defendant said he would not supply the information under pressure and refused to give the age in court. Counsel asked that the case bo adjourned for a week, and this the Bench granted.
