1 THE SIDE SHOWS. One who has had considerable expert- , enoe in connection with carnivals simii lar to that which is being promoted by tho Wellington Citizens’ Carnival for the purpose of raising funds to beauti- | fy the city reserves, predicts 'that the [ Wellington function will easily eclipse anything of the kind held in the Do- ! minion, and that should weather con- ’ ditions he suitable the result should be | in the vicinity of £2OOO. Whether this ■ prediction will prove correct or othor- | wise, time will tell, but the fact roi mains that the various sub-committees are working with enthusiasm, and the ■ result of their labours at this early , stage is most encouraging. Among the s numerous committees at work is the ; aide shows section, who recognise that, having secured the presence of a huge , concourse of people to Newtown Park, . their duty will be to provide amuse- , ment. The committee held another meeting [ on Friday, when Mr J. P. Luke pret sided. The following were added to tho committee: Mrs W. L- Levetrstam, * Messrs H. Levy, J.. G. Faulkner, A. , Levy, W. C. H. Blick, A. Walker, W. L. Leverstam. Miramar Golf dub intimated that i their club would he pleased to take charge of the golf-putting competition. Mr E. Nordon forwarded full information re golf-putting,, and intimated that if possible he would come up from Christchurch and would give the executive all the assistance possible. Mr T. H. Edmanson, district secretary Dominion Boy Scouts, wrote that the Newtown troop would he attached to the side shows section. Tho secretary (Mr Paape) stated that when at Masterton ho had conferred with the proprietors of the best side shows, who would make au offer to tho committee. Messrs Atkina and Grange informed him that the Wellington Meat Export Company and the Gear Meat Company had each donated a sheep for tho guessing competition, and Mr Barnett announced that Mr Reid, butcher, Brooklyn, had given a sheep for the same competition.
