AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. (Received February 23, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, February 23. In the swimming championships of Australia, the hundred yards race resulted: E. Wickham 1, Barry 2, Longworth 3. Time, 59sec. The three-quarters-of-a-mile race resulted: Longworth 1, Smith 2, Springheld 3. Time, 18min 36§ec. A WORLD’S RECORD BROKEN. SYDNEY, February 23. In the Ladies’ 330yds State swimming championship Miss Fanny Durack won, .beating the world’s record by 13 2-ssec, her time being 252 sec. The former record was held by Miss Daisy Curwen, of England. AN EXCITING FINISH. (Received February 24, 0.35 a.m.) MELBOURNE, February 23. There was an exciting finish to the hundred yards race. Barry’s hand shot beneath the rope first', but before his head touched Wickham got home. Longworth had an easy win in the longer race.
