NEW PLYMOUTH LETTER
February 20. Mies McKellar left last week for a visit to her sister, Mrs Harry Abraham (Khandallah). Kirs Cooper and Miss Alexander (Wanganui) are staying at the Alountaiu Hostelry. Mrs and Aliss Hay© (Kemuera. Auckland), who have been the guests of Mrs Collins, returned to Auckland by last night’s boat. Air and Airs Andus Eaynes (Auckland) are visiting New Plymouth. Small bridge evenings have been given this week by Mrs Mills, Mrs James Wilson, and Mrs Medley. Mrs Fitzherbert gave an "at home” on Tuesday afternoon, and in spite of the pouring rain, about forty ladies were present. Instead of croquet and tennis, which were to have been played, an amusing competition was held, the prizes for which were won by Mrs Courtney and Mrs Mills. Among’those present were—Mrs Newton King, Mrs Sidney Allen (Dunedin), Mrs Burgess, Mrs Blundell, Mrs Penn, Mrs .AValker, Airs Mills, Mrs Morrison, Mrs and Miss Brewster, Alisses Simpson, Mrs Courtney, Mrs and Aliss Leatham. Mrs Fitzherbert has leased her house for three months, and leaves next week with her daughters to pay a round of visits to relations in various parts of the North Island. This (Thursday) afternoon an enjoyable "at home" was given by tho High School old girls to Mr and Mrs Pridnam, who are leaving shortly for England. Afternoon tea was dispensed under the shade of the trees in the grounds, and two amusing competitions helped to while away a very pleasant afternoon. Mrs Pridham wore a handsome gown of violet eatin with front panel of gold beaded embroidery, yoke and under sleeves of silver net over violet ninon, black toque swathed with mauve ninon and with cluster of violets at one side; Miss Grant wore tussore silk; Miss Drew, black fishemet over satin, black and ecrue hat with small pink roses; Miss Livingstone, white muslin. Among the many “old girls” present were—Mrs Jack Wilson, black silk veiled with ninon, black and ecru hat with cluster of roses; Mrs Ashcroft (Vancouver), white embroidered linen, white hat swathed with pink silk, pink roses; Mrs Balharry, white silk, piped with black and white silk, black hat with roses; Airs Boston, white braided silk, black hat with white plumes; Mrs AV. Bayly, gray striped voile with cream lace, black and blue floral hat; Mi«k Dempsey, w r hite embroidered muslin. black hat wreathed with roses; Miss G. Shaw, gray crepe, black hat with pink roses; Aliss Doris Roy, shell-pink crepe, burnt straw bat wreathed with pink and blue forget-me-nots; Miss Sybil Thomson, white insertioned muslin, black plumed hat; Aliss Mildred Thomson, whit© muslin, black and whit© hat; Miss N. Smith, blue voile, gray hat lined with blue; Miss K. Winfield, blue crepe, whit© and blue hat ; Aliss Arthur, Miss Andrews, Miss G. Skinner, Aliss L. Mills and, many more. Mtea Boy and Aliss Gladys Boy are spending a week or so in Opunak© as the guests of Mrs Rogers.
